The natural consistency can be modified by gentle heating below 40°C, which softens the consistency. A major advantage of a firmer consistency is that honey can be sucked for longer, giving the valuable nutrients more time to be absorbed through the oral mucosa and thus more effectively exert their beneficial effects.
